If you’re preparing to apply for a green card, you’ll need to participate in an immigration physical. At Medical Access, with convenient locations in Germantown, Maryland, or in Alexandria and Woodbridge, Virginia, the team offers immigration physicals on-site. Following your appointment, you’ll have all the documentation needed to move forward with the application process. To schedule an appointment today, call the nearest office, or book a consultation online.
Newcomers to the United States are required to take certain steps by US Citizenship and Immigration Services to become lawful permanent residents. An immigration physical is one of those steps.
An immigration physical is an in-office medical screening. Medical Access offers translators if you need language assistance during your immigration physical.
You’ll need to bring the following items to your immigration physical:
If the physical is for a child who is age 14 or younger, bring his or her identification. The ID should include the child’s name, date, and place of birth, and a parent’s full name. Acceptable forms of ID include an affidavit or birth certificate (with an English translation).
An immigration physical includes a comprehensive physical exam and review of your medical history. Though the exam varies depending on your age, you should expect a skin test or chest X-ray examination to look for signs of tuberculosis. You may also need a blood test for syphilis and gnorrhea.
A mental health evaluation is part of the exam. You’ll be asked about your current and past behaviors and mental health condition.
US immigration laws also require you to be assessed for a range of diseases that are easily spread. These include:
It’s important to bring your immunization record, if you have one, to show you’ve been vaccinated for these diseases.
At Medical Access, the cost of an immigration physical depends on your age. For patients 14 and younger, the cost is $235. For patients 15 and older, the cost is $395.
The flat fees cover a physical exam, a blood test for syphilis and gnorrhea and a chest X-ray to look for signs of tuberculosis. After receiving the results of your tests, your provider can determine if you need additional testing or vaccines. They will inform you of any additional costs at that time.
Whenever possible, Medical Access recommends scheduling your immigration physical in advance. If necessary, they offer same-day appointments.
